Hello, this is a blog about parenting from a couple's perspective.
Ever since our daughter first came home, we've been leading busy lives, and before we knew it, it was almost time for her one-month check-up when she developed infantile eczema on the top of her head.
My wife, in particular, was concerned about atopic dermatitis and applied Vaseline, so I'd like to share an example of the questions we asked the doctor and the answers we received.
※Please note that the content written here is just one example, so I would be happy if you could use it as a reference.
■Overview
・Don't immediately assume it's atopic dermatitis.
・Are the bumps red even if they haven't been scratched?
・Is the baby itchy?
・If the rash is still in the same spot after about a month, it might be atopic dermatitis.
■Checkpoints taught at the obstetrics and gynecology clinic
・Don't immediately assume it's atopic dermatitis.
→Infantile eczema is seen in almost 100% of babies. For now, please calm down. Most of the time, observation is required. Keep the skin clean as much as possible and avoid friction on the skin.
・Are the bumps red even if they haven't been scratched?
→If the baby's rash is red even without scratching, it might be atopic dermatitis. However, don't make an immediate judgment; let's observe it.
・Is the baby itchy?
→If the baby shows signs of itchiness or is actually scratching, it might be a possibility. Please care for and observe the baby for about a month.
※As parents, you want it to be looked at right away, so I personally think it's perfectly fine to go to the hospital if it goes beyond what you can tolerate. If it's not what you expected, I believe you should express your heartfelt "thank you" with all your might.
・Observe for about 1 month
→If the bumps are still in the same place after about a month, it might be atopic dermatitis. If the location changes, the possibility of atopic dermatitis seems low. This is also proof that the baby is fighting bacteria and viruses. Parents should also be strong-minded, watch over them warmly, and let them grow strong.
Now, please enjoy your life with your baby.
